
Making a Cold Brew Green Tea
There isn’t a fixed method for making cold brew sencha, as it often involves individual ideas and innovations. While dedicated cold brew sencha tea bags are available, many households keep loose leaf sencha on hand, which can easily be used to make cold brew sencha using a teapot.
Here, we’ll introduce two methods: one using dedicated cold brew sencha tea bags and the other using loose leaf sencha. Give them a try!
Using Dedicated Cold Brew Sencha Tea Bags:
- Using a Cold Water Pitcher:
- Use one tea bag (approx. 5g) per 500ml of cold water.
- Place the tea bag(s) in a cold water pitcher and refrigerate. After about 15 minutes, remove the tea bag(s) and enjoy. Adding ice to the pitcher will expedite chilling.
- For Busy Individuals:
- Before bedtime, place the tea bag(s) in a cold water pitcher. In the morning, simply remove the tea bag(s) and enjoy.
Ensure to store the prepared cold brew sencha in the refrigerator to maintain its freshness and flavor for a longer period.
Using Loose Leaf Sencha:
- Using Cold Water:
- Use slightly more tea leaves than usual (about 2-3 tablespoons per person) in a teapot.
- Slowly pour cold water until the tea leaves are submerged. Let it steep for 4-5 minutes, then pour into glasses and enjoy.
- For Immediate Consumption:
- Use a bit more tea leaves than usual (about 2 tablespoons per person) in a teapot.
- Pour hot water until the leaves are just covered, let it sit for about 30 seconds with the lid on. Then, add enough ice to fill the teapot, pour into glasses after about 30 seconds of steeping, and enjoy.
Using a Blender:
For a unique twist, blend 200ml of water with 5-10g of sencha leaves for 4-5 minutes. Strain the resulting green-yellow liquid through a cloth to make sencha juice. Dilute to taste, add ice, and enjoy. Store any remaining juice in the refrigerator and consume promptly.
